What are my options for gum disease treatment?
Routine Check-Ups Are Vital
Gum disease is a serious oral health problem, and routine exams and cleanings are the best way to prevent it. If you do develop gum disease, we offer the customized solution you need to get your oral health back on track.
In its mildest stage, we refer to gum disease as gingivitis. We treat gingivitis with comprehensive professional dental cleaning and suggestions for improving your oral hygiene practices. Going forward, your hygienist will monitor the health of your gums to keep them healthy and disease-free.
If we don’t treat gingivitis, it will advance to periodontitis. You will notice symptoms like bad breath, gum recession, loose teeth, and even tooth loss. Advanced gum disease is a chronic condition that is treatable, but not curable.
Scaling and Root-Planing
To treat advanced gum disease, Dr. Huang will recommend a procedure called scaling and root-planing (SRP). During SRP, your hygienist scrapes away plaque and tartar that collects on your teeth and below the gum line. Then she smooths the root surfaces of your teeth to prevent bacteria buildup and to help your gums reattach to your teeth.
At Bethlehem Town Family Dentistry, we provide customized solutions for gum disease and educate you on how to avoid it in the future. Please call us to arrange your appointment so we can restore your beautiful smile.
