Dental Sealants

Dental Sealants in Feura Bush NYDental sealants are a valuable tool for protecting healthy teeth. At our Feura Bush dental office, we commonly use them for children to protect their healthy teeth from decay.

But it is not uncommon for adults who are at high risk for decay or fillings to have dental sealants placed on their teeth. The purpose is exactly the same is it is for children – to protect a healthy tooth.

What Are Dental Sealants?

Dental sealants are a thin coating of plastic placed on molars that have depressions and uneven surfaces. It can be difficult to clean all these surfaces properly, and sealants provide a barrier that prevents bacteria from penetrating the enamel. The process takes only a few minutes, and the majority of patients don’t need anesthetic because we work only on the surface of the teeth.

During your regular checkup, Dr. Huang will evaluate your situation to see if dental sealants are a good idea for you. The important thing to remember is that sealants can only be used on teeth that are healthy and have not had any previous dental work.
